FORMS AND DIES
|
All
Electroprep dies are the fixed dimension, nonadjustable type. This
assures consistent lead spacing and form dimensions while eliminating
the complex mechanism necessary for adjustable spacing. In many
applications, more than one size of component can be cut and formed in a
die. For example, a 1/4 watt resistor can be formed in a 1/2 watt die,
although there will be some dimensional differences due to the change in
body and lead sizes. The same die will fit either automatic or single
stroke machines. Most
dies consist of two parts - a moving and a stationary portion. Both
parts are pre-aligned with mating heads and each is secured with a
single, 10-32 socket cap screw. This provides for simple, quick,
error-free alignment when changing and seating the die. All dies are
precision ground from the finest tool steel and heat treated. Standard
dies all assume a .062 inch (1.575 mm) board thickness and are designed
to allow the component leads to protrude 0.060 inch (1.524 mm) through
the board after insertion for optimum solder joint quality. In addition,
these dies are designed to absorb the shock and protect the lead-to-body
seal of the component during the cutting and forming operation. This is
extremely important particularly when cutting and forming delicate glass
components.
